Anyone else had this happen, and is it normal?!

Question: sometimes when i am working with small objects with my fingers, (especially pulling or twisting something) my pointer finger will lock into a bent posistion and i cant straighten it out on it's own, i have to use my other hand and un-bend it back to its normal posistion. it isn't really painfull but it does hurt when it happens (sort of like a cramp)

Hello Jay: I had that happening to me several years ago and it happened mostly when I was sleeping. I would wake up to find my finger locked and would have to use my other hand to snap it back open. I thought it might have been out of place. I went to see my orthopedic Doctor and he did a procedure in his office using a local anesthetic to deaden my hand. He trimmed the tendons and that took care of the problem. That was nearly 25 years ago and I haven't had the problem since that was done. You may want to check with an orthopedic physician to see if that can be done in your case.

Well that can be a number of things going on, low b-12, potassium, or any vit. for that matter can cause cramping. If you type a lot or maybe even arthritis is an option that is something if it cont... you should see your PCP.

It sounds like either an RSI or arthritis. Make sure you stretch out your hands:

I used to get awful hand-cramps as a guitarist.
