Bony bump at the bottom of the back of my skull?!

Question: I'm not concerned, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. I have a small bony lump at the bottom of the back of my skull, just above my neck. It's been there for as long as I can remember, and until the last couple years didn't think twice about it, but it doesn't seem to be normal. It doesn't bother me though. I'm just curious.

Oh! I actually get to apply my biological anthropology class to something! Yippee!

Yeah, that bump is called an occipital bun. It's not exactly common but it's by no means unheard of. I'm sure there's a wiki entry for it.

Not to worry......It is just part of your skull bone. Yours just protrudes a bit more than others is all. You have just discovered something very important: you are not perfect!!!

Wow! That's wonderful. Nor more worrying, ok?

I am an RN

i think its just were your skull ends and your spinal cord begins cuz if you look at a picture of a back of a skull there a little piece that jets down a little and then your spinal cord begins but i dont really know what it is im just making a speculation

people of Portuguese decent have this and also the lost tribe of the Melungeons here in the United States.

Melungeons are a race of people who do not know their ancestory. It is believed to be a mixed race of Portuguese/American Indian and sometimes African.
