How can I get my hearing back? Something's wrong with my ears and I don'!

Question: I woke up 4 days ago and could barely hear out of my right ear. I have been sick with bronchitis for the past few weeks but I'm pretty much over it now. I don't feel any drainage in my ear or anything. I can barely hear out of it and I hear ringing in it from time to time. I'm almost deaf out of it and now I'm starting to take on symptoms in my left ear too. I can barely hear myself talk. At times the insides of my ear (possibly my ear drums) feel heavy but I don't hear or feel any drainage. I've lost most hearing and it's really starting to scare me. I have no medical insurance so I can't go to a doctor. I'm not sure what's causing this. I've tried Claritin and Sudaffed with no luck. Any idea on what could be wrong and how to clear it so I can get my hearing back? I'm desperate!

Just because you don't "feel" anything in your ears, doesn't mean you don't have an ear infection. All the symptoms you describe are due to an infection. You need antibiotics, preferably amoxicillan (penicillin), unless allergic. No over the counter medication will combat bacteria, no doubt brought upon by the bronchitis. The ringing (tinnitus), is caused by increased blood flow to the ears. Please go to a local county clinic where you can obtain low-cost care and medicines. Left untreated you can damage your hearing for life.

Sounds like (no pun intended) an ear infection. This is what happened to me, but not as badly.

The may be just stopped up with too much wax, this happens all the time. Go see your Dr. and have him check it, he may just need to flush them out.====

It could be that your ears are simply plugged up with wax. It happens to me sometimes, particularly after I've had a cold. There are over the counter remedies for it at the drug store, but in my experience, they make things worse.

My advice to you would be to go to your doctor and have your ears cleaned. It costs about sixty bucks, so even if you don't have insurance, it should still be (hopefully) affordable. Insurance might not cover it even if you had it. Good luck!

Do you have a friend who can loan you the money to go to a low cost clinic? You need to see a doctor and have the ears checked. Putting it off could make it worse then it needs to be.
