Reading usually does it for me. Puts me to sleep after a page or two. Also, deep, slow breathing is very calming and relaxing and usually works to put me to sleep pretty quick. Maybe it would work for you.

Using the computer isn't a good idea, your brain is active and so takes time to "cool down".
Similar for TV, but not as bad as usually you don't need to concentrate as much. Reading is a good one too. Maybe some of those night drinks (Horlicks, Ovaltine) etc could be a good one to try?

i always imagine myself swinging in a hammock... it helps!
if you have a lot on your mind, try writing down everything you need to do for the next day or whatever is bothering you (if that's the case), that way it's not sitting in your mind for you to be thinking about.

I've heard that staring at a computer screen tricks your brain into thinking it's seeing daylight. So you probably shouldn't be here.

And here I am, 4am and can't sleep either, LOL ...

I just saw you said you're nursing. You need to do some reading and learn how to co-sleep. When I nursed my little one it would always put me to sleep. It works ... your body releases a chemical to make you sleepy when you nurse. If there was a night when I would wake and couldn't fall back asleep, I would nurse my little one some without waking her up, and it worked great.

listen to talk radio .. as in on the AM dial (the one no one seems to know about)

Watch a slow movie.

take a few shots of tequila and read a boring book and actually try to understantd it.

Ah well it 9:00am in london now lol try lyin complete still on ur matress and clear you head (that vital!) an dthink of each and every one of your body parts and block everything out and after a while when you reach ur stomach you should hav a feelin of sinkin in2 ur matress.xxx

When I can't sleep I have a shower with lavender body wash and drink Sleepytime tea, that usally works for me, but if you don't have the stuff right now, then just lie down and try to relax, and it may take awhile but you should fall asleep.

If you live in a safe neighborhood and are of legal age to be out, take a walk. Many people says it wakes them up, but it helps to tire me out and clear my mind. (If you can't go for a walk maybe you could walk around your yard and look at the sky if it's a clear night?)

Get a boring book and sit up to read it. Donot engage your mind in anything more stimulating than that. I catch myself head bobbing in no time. Good luck.

Let me know. I have that problem. I can't fall asleep at all unless I am overtired. It's impossible for me to shut off my mind. During the school year, bed time falls around 2 AM (I'll usually be awake at 8, if I can manage to hear that alarm.) During a break? I'm happy if I sleep at all.
