I pull my hair out, help me?!

Question: I started pulling my hair out about 3 years ago and I've done everything that I could to try to stop and thought I did until I realized I was doing it without knowing. I have only had a bald spot once, since then I seem to do it all over my head and my hair has thinned out a lot since I started doing this. What can I do to stop? I've looked up stuff online, but have found nothing really to help. It's like an uncontrollable feeling that I get when this happens... it's so hard to stop and its driving me insane... help?

It's called Trichotillomania, it's an "impulse control disorder" commonly associated with OCD. Unfortunately, there's no magic cure. It's more about training yourself to become conscious of the impulses, and resisting them. You've just got to be committed to breaking the habit. Anti-anxiety medication can be helpful, though, since added stress means added impulses. Consider seeing a therapist, or psychiatrist, if you think medicine is in order.

Same problem, but i don't know what it is!

I need help too :(

Convince yourself that you are not insecure. Pulling of hair is one habit that explains immaturity, anxieties and insecurities. Have confidence.

Hamster is a damn moron. People like this just do not understand and need to keep their mouth shut. My sister is doing this and ever since she was able to find someone who she could really talk to, she has gotten much better. I advise that in the mean time, you seek a psychiatric therapist to get SOME type of relief. You have to be open minded when listening to the therapist and be willing to do what they, the professional, say.

Good luck. I feel for you.

I for get the real name but Tric is a nickname for it.. you need to see someone about it

Try some CBT , could be an anxiety problem.
Just a thought

It sounds like a obsessive compulsive disorder. You can get medicine and cognitive therapy to control your behavior. Look for a therapist.

Hair pulling is a form of Obsessive compulsive disorder which is related to depression and anxiety. Chances are you do it when you are feeling anxious about something and you don't know you are feeling anxious just like you don't know you are pulling. Get a therapist you are comfortable with and start a cognitive therapy program. the fact that you are aware that it is a problem and have tried to stop on your own means you are ready to learn a new way to deal with the feelings that set it off. The sooner you can learn ways to work with this the sooner it will be over.

I definitely think you should talk to someone about it. Maybe a counselor. Don't for one second think that is is normal behavior. Common behavior does not equal normal behavior. Pulling out hair is common among young girls and women as well as behavior such as cutting but is not normal by any means. TALK to a professional right away as it can lead to other destructive behavior. Talk to your parents about finding someone to talk to. If you are an adult, do a web search or search the phone book for a counselor. If you are short of cash talk to a social worker who can help also.

stop pulling it out then...

what a stupid question
