I find that Advil PM works great & doesn't make you tired the next day like Tylnol PM

Stop trying to fall asleep. Go to your favorite couch, turn on an old movie or re-runs of sit-coms. If you fall asleep on the couch, oh well. You're asleep aren't you. Don't force it. If you anticipate a bad nights sleep, take a sleeping pill two hours before bedtime....or try the OTC remedies. Some of them work very well.

Exercise 30-60 minutes every day. Do not drink caffeine after noon. Make sure your bedroom is dark and comfortably cool. Get a small fan to use for white noise. The exercise is the most important.

If you absolutely can't go to sleep, instead of tossing and turning get out of bed for a little while. Read a book, fold some laundry, whatever, then go back to bed.

Lying in bed breath in and out really slowly. Count as you're breathing. Breathe in think "One", breathe out think "Two". Do this up to ten, slowly, then go backwards and count down.

If something is on your mind and you keep thinking about it, and counting your breathing doesn't work, get your mind on something else, like think about what you're going to dream. And make it something really positive.

If you're just having trouble falling asleep every night make sure you're getting enough exercise. It can affect how well you sleep. You don't have to exhaust yourself, just get a little exercise every day and it helps.

warm milk with a shot of brandy, get a warming blanket.

First of all try to clear your head first,
don't let there be unfinished tasks/homework at the end of the day.
Even if you think there's nothing left , try to excercise/skate/ or a walk around the block should do the trick.
Some warm milk /wine (if allowed a glas not a whole bottle)in the evening
Finally you always can resort to some pills, not my favourite solution.
