What are some good effective ways to quit smoking?!

Question: The first thing I did was break the associations. Some common associations are smoking after eating, while drinking and after sex. The key is to break the connections you have with smoking. You will continue to smoke but not during times you've associated with smoking.

The next thing to do is to smoke less of the cigarette. Smoke 3/4 or half of each cigarette as if you smoked the whole thing. That is to say don't smoke twice as many cigarettes just
cause you've been smoking half. Continue to reduce the amount you smoke of each cigarette. Don't worry about the money you've wasted because if you continue to smoke you'll waste a lot more. Simple math. If a pack costs, conservatively, $3 a pack and you smoke a pack every two days. Then you will have spent $547 over the course of one year. That's enough money for a cheap cruise.

Next, if you're still having a hard time with the cravings, most cities have a quit line where you can get nicotine patches for free. I know in New York they offer them. (Just dial 311). Since you've broken the associations you have with smoking you'll only be feeding the random nicotine addictions. Keep a patch in your pocket in case you feel the urge. Be careful not to sleep with one on or you'll have terrible dreams.

You should know the harm that smoking causes and most people don't know that smoking effects your body's ability to sleep so its really important not to smoke at least 1 hour before you sleep so the nicotine will leave your system.

Sunflower seeds, chewing gum.

Also a rubber band around the wrist. Every time you think about cigarettes even for a second yank of that rubber band 10 times really hard.

That is what my friend does.

Ask your doctor if you can get on an OCD drug like Lamictal.

Works like a charm.

Keep busy and go to the gym.

Padded cell.

Cold turkey.

Stop buying cigs

Start running either in the mornings or at night. Avoid going in homes where smokers smoke inside.

First of all, you must be really ,really determined to quit. I quit when I got sick, because by the time I got well, I had been through withdrawal. You must learn new habits to replace the old ones. Chew gum, eat vegetables, take up the habit of working crosswords, read more often, learn to knit or play guitar.(it's very hard to hold a cigarette and play guitar!) Hang out with people who don't smoke.Stay away from places where there is smoking going on.There are lots of gums and things on the market these days to help take the edge off your craving. Most of all, determination is the key.

Wellbutrin XL... Takes away your cravings and is what caused me to quit without intending to quit!

I just felt less and less of a need to smoke because of the medication that it was a totally unintended side effect...

It is perscribed under another name specifically for smoking cessation but insurance companies don't always cover it under that name but as Wellbutrin XL it is covered as an antidepressant.

I didn't suffer for a single min because of the W.X.L.

Cold turkey worked for me.I smoked 2-3 packs a day for 27 years, but I was very determined...
You CAN beat it if you take it one day, or one hour at a time.

Good luck!
