What's wrong with my sisster?!

Question: Every few mornings when my sister is brushing her teeth to get ready for school she starts throwing up. She's not doing it on purpose. I'm in the bathroom putting on my make up, I see it happen often, she's not poking a finger down her throat, I see that she's trying her best when she feels it coming to stop it. Often when this happens she's not sick for the rest of the day. She can't be pregnant because it's been happening for over 2 years. We've been to the doctors, she has no medical conditions that the doctors can find, they just say she is bulimic but I know she hates when this happens.... What's wrong with my sister and how can we help her with this?

I had this same problem and the doctors also found nothing:
Possible causes below:

1: she is eating too late at night and her food is not able to properly digest before bed so it rests on her stomach and leaves her feeling sick in the morning

2: she has a weak stomach first thing

3: she has too much fat in her diet

4: for a while she had something wrong which has now been cured yet she wakes up expecting to be sick so she is

5: brushing her teeth first thing adds saliva into her mouth and generates stomach acid build up which then needs to be released from her body

I now brush my teeth at work instead so that I'm not putting something in my mouth straight away and this is a good way of dealing with the issue!

I hope you get things sorted!

Please Please see the doctor right a way,

An over-active gag reflex

I used to know someone who was like that and it was cause he used to push the toothbrush right to the back of his throat when brushing. Is it not the same with your sister?

If it occurs when she's brushing her tongue, it's probably just because she has an increased gag reflex. Sometimes even brushing the inside of your teeth will do this with some people, especially if her gag reflex has been trained to react this way before. Other than that, make sure she's not swallowing her toothpaste!

She's probably just fine, I wouldn't worry about it

it is nothing more than a gag reflex

She has a gag reflex, it sounds like. When she brushes, my guess is that the toothbrush and/or the toothpaste makes her gag.

it sounds like nerves or something, is the sick just yellow bile? i used to have a simular problem after finding out something shocking about my family, also does she smoke?
with my problem it was a cross between nerves and smoking weed, never went to the docs about it but when i gave up weed and confronted my issues it dissapeared.

the only problem I see is that she has 2 s's.

this happens to me every so often. i just have a very sensitive gag reflex.

i just have to remember to keep breathing and stay calm, it is something you can get control of.

maybe it her reaction to having the toothbrush in her month. I gag sometimes on the toothbrush especially trying to brush my back teeth.

Maby she is allergic to something she has been eating those two years thats making her that way

I hate the taste and texture of tooth paste as well, it always makes my gag. Yuck!

Have her try brushing without toothpaste and use baking powder instead.

If she wants minty breath give her some mouth wash or ALTOIDS, curiously strong peppermints.

It could be many things.
In college, I had morning vomiting which was caused by new vitamins, but it took a while to figure out.
Maybe your sister has a strong gag reflex that the toothbrush is activating. Perhaps morning coffee or tea is really irritating her stomach. Maybe a morning medication?
It's very good of you to look out for your sister.
I don't think doctors are able to exhaust every possible cause of a symptom. They test for the common causes. It would be better that they just say they don't know, rather than mislabel it. I'm sorry that they're not helping her.
In the meantime, if she can take the best care of her health, in terms of diet, sleep, exercise, & relaxation & try to be alert for anything that makes it better or worse, she might come across a clue.
If she hasn't gotten a second doctor's opinion yet, perhaps that's something she could discuss with a parent.
There are medical information sites & "Ask a Doctor" sites that might provide some clarity. Do you think a parent or other adult would be willing to help with some Web research?
Best of luck to both of you. --And what a wonderful sister you are.
