Stomach ulcer is an condition in which an ulcer occurs in gastric and doudenum site.

Normally, the gastric and duodenum wall has its own way to protect themselves from getting injured. They have mucus, good adjacent epithelial wall, and blood supply to provide nutrition and to help in re-epitheliation of the wall

If the protection is damaged, the wall of gastric and duodenum can be breached by irritant substance or by infection. These conditions can cause ulcer.

Many things can damage the wall, such as the gastric acid itself (HCl). That's why when someone has hyperacidity, they can feel a pain in their gaster.

Other stuff that can damage the wall are infection caused by bacteria (such as Helicobacter pylori, streptococcus, staphylococcus, etc), fungal, etc.

Drugs can also induce ulcer in the stomach, such as NSAID (Non Steroid Anti Inflammatory Drug).

If someone had an ulcer, the cause of it must be found and eliminated.

So, if it is caused by infection, such as H.pylori, antibiotic must be applied; amoxicillin 500 mg 4 times a day and clarythromycin 500 mg 2 times a day.

If it is caused by use of NSAID, it must be stopped or changed.

To relieve the symptoms: (1) Antacid (such as mylanta) to reduce the amount of Gastric acid (because gastric acid can be irritative), (2) Proton Pump Inhibitor (such as esomepra-zole) to reduce the production of gastric acid, & (3) Sucralfa-te (to help protect the wall).

Stress

Does he smoke? Smoking can cause severe coughing which can tear holes (ulcers) in the stomach/throat. If it's not that, it could be from bad food, irregular digestion, etc.

i have heard (I'm no expert) that if they worry a lot and are stressed it can happen.

Skipping meals due to stress.

If the case of ulcer is severe, surgery is the only option. The best solution for this is eat a proper diet, eat on time and if ever there are symptoms of ulcer go consult your doctor immediately. Because (even if it's a cliche, it's a truth) prevention is the key.

Ulcers are from a bacteria called H. Pylori. Antibiotic and proton pump inhibitor therapy is used to control the H Pylori bacteria. Usually a PrevPac is prescribed. From there proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec, Protonix, Prevacid) therapy is continued until the ulcer is gone. If your friend is without insurace or means to pay for these medications, they can take over the counter Prilosec, or just plain old Maalox. They should also stay away from foods that aggrevate the ulcer.

Two Aussie scientists discovered that stomach ulcers can be caused by a bacteria. According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/430429...

"Robin Warren and Barry Marshall showed the bacterium Helicobacter pylori plays a key role in the development of both stomach and intestinal ulcers.

Thanks to their work these ulcers are often no longer a long-term, frequently disabling problem.

They can now be cured with a short-term course of drugs and antibiotics.

In 1982, when H. pylori was discovered by Dr Marshall and Dr Warren, stress and lifestyle were considered the major causes of stomach and intestinal ulcers.

It is now firmly established that the bacterium causes more than 90% of duodenal (intestinal) ulcers and up to 80% of gastric (stomach) ulcers. "

Stress? It might be...

How does a young person get an ulcer?

- Improper diet.
- Softdrinks, Cola or Coffee...

Or it might be, this young person is not taking his/her Meal. And this is one of the possible cause.

How to cure?

- Proper Diet.
- Take your Meal.
- Stop drinking softdrinks and etc.
- Drink: Alpine Evap or Alaska daily. (very effective)

Ulcers are caused by Helicobactor pylori not by stress as some people have been led to believe. I had one years ago when I was 32 (I'm 47 now) and suffered with it for 8 years until I was able to do the ulcer cure. I'm not sure if there are any hollistic cures that will kill them off but I went onto a heavy duty course of anti-biotics for 14 days then went to a pathology clinic where I had to do a "breath test", yes like the ones the police make you take. This was done to see if the cure had worked properly. I have been ulcer free now for 8 years this April. I owe many thanks to Drs Warren and Marshall for their work in this field and their deserved Noble Prize for Medicine!!
