Can marijuana and alcohol cause permanent brain damage?!

Question: to the point where you can no longer make new pathways (retain information)

Answers: to the point where you can no longer make new pathways (retain information)

There's some evidence that marijuana can cause all kinds of brain problems from paranoia to schizophrenia although the jury is still a little out on whether it's caused or just triggered. It has more conclusively been linked to depression.

Alcohol definitely can cause damage to brain cells, although it's more likely the liver damage will kill you first. Can't remember how many brain cells they say a pint kills, but it's quite a few.

You can always make new pathways in your brain for memory, but it's the speed at which they are being destroyed that gives you the symptoms. The older you get the slower that process works so the more effect the above drugs will have.

Heroin however is a lot, lot worse than the above and causes very permanent damage to the "thinking" bit of your brain.

if you take enough.......

uh yes

alcohol can

Yes fact

don't think so...do you know how many young people and adults smoke weed!? A lot! Many people have smoked all there lives and are functioning adults. Drinking should not cause brain damage...just liver damage

no yes,,,,no definitely,um I dont know ,whats the question again?

Heres a tip
Never mix hard drugs with alcohol...
Can lead to swelling of the brain - therefore obviously death...painful death as the brain is restricted by the skull and it can no longer swell.

Just a thought...think about it before you decide

huh?

Well if your using them enough Yes. Any use of Alcohal, marijuana or other drugs continually slows down the brain It cant be reversed easilly to.

alcohol maybe

pot kinda slows your thinking down.... the first time i got high the day after i couldnt really think str8 and its kinda stuck like tht now : ( but i was really messed up and i regret smoking more even after that

i hope so so i don't have to realize how ugly i am to every woman i come in contact with

in some cases, extensive usage of marijuana can cause clinical paranoia. alcohol, especially if you're under the age of 30, can be detrimental to the brain cells that control judgment and understanding of consequences. both of these things, used in moderation, are pretty harmless... even the food pyramid sent out by the government say that you should have a small portion of alcohol each day. hope this helps!

in short yes. sorry but it can.

Marijuana, probably not. Alcohol, absolutely.

Yes it does cause brain damage.Permanently.

It can depend on the individual... and the answer can be yes and now.

I too know adults who have smoked weed most of their adults lives.. and guess what? One is a gondolier and the other is a private care giver.. neither of them are professional... thier jobs don't require drug screens.... and they don't have to do much critical thinking...

Saying that my sister is the latter of the two. She is a functional adult, but her common sense is lacking and honestly the rest of the family can see her mental impairment..... why is it that she thought it was ok to run her car into the garage door after a fight with her husband?
