Is there anyway to reduce the poping in your ears while on a plane?!

Question: I do just fine with gum or candy, but my boyfriend gets severe pressure and is usually doesn't pop till days after the flight, he is usually misserable the whole flight, what else can he try? Someone once told me to take Sudafed, does that work?

benadryl & advil
it reduces the pain and will keep him calm so he is not thinking about it.

no you can make it seem less by chewing something

yes sudafed should work

If he can make himself yawn, that's an instant fix.

Take a deep breath, pinch your nostrils tight then try to exhale through your nose, the pressure will un-pop your ears.

He should go see a doctor for suggestions. Personally, my pain has been excruiciating whenever I had the flu. For infants, they recommend feeding from a bottle during take off to help reduce ear pain. I'd suggest a bottle with a push spout that he can "suck" off of.

i dont know f its d same 4 u but when i yawn, d popping stops. So i try 2 yawn a lot of times during the flight to minimize the popping. Its only temporary thou.

Keep swallowing every 2 minutes.

I chew gum, but I dont think a decongestant would do any harm. It should help. You may want to take one a half hour before your trip. That at least would give it sometime to work. You may also want to ask a pharmacist. They sometimes have good advice, and its FREE! Hope your boyfriend finds something to help.
