Do Animals Suffer From The Effects Of Second Hand Smoke...?!

Question: If so, isn't it long overdue that smoking was banned in the home to protect these innocent animals?

Answers: If so, isn't it long overdue that smoking was banned in the home to protect these innocent animals?

smoking will never be banned in the home because that would be infringment on ones privacy. If you smoke around animals they will tell you if the smoke is bothering them by sneezing or walking away. Any living creature that has lungs can be affected by smoke. If you are concerned do like I do and smoke outside. It not only disperses the smoke away from anything else, but eventually your house will smell fresher.

yes, they would

Absolutely. My grandfather was a really heavy smoker. After he died, his dog went to live with my aunt, and the dog has looked so much healthier since!

Yes they do.. I had to get nicotine patches for my ferret.the ferret was going stir crazy when I gave the ciggies up.

smoking was banned to save on nhs expenditure.
animals do not use nhs so it's no worry to gordon brown

Of course it does. They can't ban it because so many people smoke and just banning it would result in massive chaos.

well, dogs do have lungs.

and yes. i think smoking should be banned whenever in the presence of animals.
start a petition?

My mum and dads budgie got cancer of the wing. I think it was due to the smoke in the room

In answer - no, we do not know if animals suffer 'passive' smoking. However, dogs lick their backside and apparently suffer no ill effects? On the other hand if we did that (theoretically of course) we would become extremely ill. So maybe dogs/cats etc have an in-built immune system greater than ours? In research labs, dogs/cats etc are subjected to experiments with smoking/beauty products/antibiotics/food allergies - to name but a few. Therefore why pick on smoking, why not wave your banner on these subjects We, and probably you, spray air fresheners/cleaners all around our house, with no thought for the pets! My neighbours give their dog chocolate, which we all know is toxic, and it died last year aged 4! You cannot make a sweeping statement that smoking should be banned in the home. Haven't smokers been persecuted enough. There is no-smoking everywhere, you have won your battle. How dare you suggest that my home should now become a Gestapo state - I own it, therefore I do what I want!! Smokers are now in the same category as mass murderers. Who would you rather live next door too? Ted Bundy/a paedophile, or a smoker? What is the greater risk! And yes as you have probably gathered I am a responsible smoker and a dog owner. However, I only smoke in my conservatory or outside on the patio and my dog is the most healthy thing on four legs at 7 years old. You really have to get a grip on life.
