Bruising normally occures when the needle complete pierces the vein (in through the front, out through the back). The blood leaks out throught the holes in the vein and settles beneath the skin. Pooled blood changes color under the skin as it breaks down. It can go from black to purple, then to yellow.

Don't worry, this is a very minor issue that does not require you to see a doctor. It will clear up on it's own.
