Has anyone else seen these statistics on the rise in autistic children being bor!

Question: 20 years ago about 1 in every 10,000 child was diagnosed with autism. Now it is about 1 out of every 166 children! That is an alarming statistic.
This book says, "Many parents, doctors and scientists now believe that the increase in autism is directly linked to the number of scheduled vaccinations babies received. During the 1990's, the vaccinations each child was mandated to have doubled from about 20 to almost 40." Then they go on to mention all the toxins in these vaccines. What are your views on this?

I have read this and its startling...What is even more interesting is the fact that in the Amish community (whom do no vaccinate) there are NO autistic children. In history there were three children in the Amish community that had autism, 1 that had been born in another country and was vaccinated, the second was vaccinated once and developed autism shortly thereafter and the third was also vaccinated. Interesting!

Diagnoses are up I think more due to awareness of symptoms. Someone could be midly or severly autistic and they would become part of that statistic. Maybe in past years mild autism wasn't diagnosed properly. There are a lot of similarities between an aspergers (austistic spectrum) and an ADHD child too.

Some studies say that vaccinations are causing autism, some say it's cell phones used by the mother during pregnancy. I say, the autistic spectrum has been defined better recently, and now more patients fall into various forms of autism.

i TOTALLY agree with you!!! I don't believe its because of awareness - I do not remember ANYBODY in my class in school- or anybody in the grades above or below me that acted like anybody that was autistic. I now know many autistic children - and If somebody in my grade 20 years ago - or grades around me were autistic - they would have stood out.
I think its the shots!

I personally don't think that vaccines have anything to do with this correlation. I have heard the discussion and 20 years ago almost nothing was known about autism and now doctors are becoming better recognizing the condition. I would question the 1 in 166 children having autism. As with any other research you will need to review many studies to make up your mind on the subject.
I would start with reputable journals like JAMA and the such. There is alot of medical research out there and you almost have to be an expert to weed through the good sceintific studies and the poorly done studies.
Personally I found no compelling evidence preventing me from withholding vacciens from my children. I have never had an adverse reaction nor have any of my children.

I think the benifits out weigh the risks. Your child would be more likely to get a disease that a vaccine would protect against and have life long problems resulting than the risk of adverse reactions.

I'm not so sure it's about vaccinations. I do know that there is a current study going on about the drug Pitocin related to increased autism rates.

Pitocin is a drug used to induce labor. Doctors are now shying away from using it and other man-made labor inducers, because there seems to be a direct link to the increased use of these drugs and the higher autism rates. 20 years ago, these drugs were not used to induce labor.

The study is currently being conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

i think it is part of our intent to be emotionless

There have been a number of lifestyle changes in the last 20 years and since there is no direct link between vaccines and autism I would have to disagree. It may be a contributing factor, but anything from cell phones to computers to video games or TVs could be a cause too.

That good research has shown no link between vaccines causing autism.
That good research has shown genes are the cause of autism.
That if you read the descriptions of what is diagnosed as *autism* now you very quickly see that this is a case of diagnostic transference.

Kids are no longer profoundly mentally retarded they are severely autistic.

Kids are no longer extremely shy, they have austism spectrum disorder

Kids no longer are socially ackward, they have asd, etc etc etc..
