What is cricothyroidomy and how and when is it performed?!

Question: A cricothyroidomy is a procedure to assist a person to breath. The Cricoid Cartilage is a cartilagenous structure under and slightly below the Thyroid, a hormone producing gland in a person's neck/throat area.

This procedure is when a needle or small tube is places into someone's airway to aide them in being able to breath. It is normally performed as a life saving technique when other attempts to clear an obstructed airway have failed.

Hope this helps!
