How long until permanent damage sets in from Acid Reflux?!
Question: I'm fifteen, and for the past year I've had acid reflux though at first I had no idea what it was.
It is worse at nights and during daytime it eases up.
It's not very severe heart burn but not very mild either, and it wont wake me up at night, in the morning my throat will just be very sore and tender from the burning.
It's gone on for about a year or maybe a little more.
How long can or does it take for permanent damage to set in? I'm a singer and I really desperately am hoping that I don't have any damage yet...

it only takes 6 mnths to a yr...and it can do more than just damage your throat...it can cause cancer...yes I said cancer...so get some
Zantac, Prilosec or Pepcid (all OTC) and get it taken care of...your singing will suffer or go away all together. (your vocal chords are in your throat and the acid from your stomach will
damage them.)
It takes a long time but you don't want to damage your esophagus.
Try taking over the counter Prilosec...follow instructions. If that doesn't help , see your MD. There are other meds he can try you on.
Try to avoid fried, fatty and very spicy foods. Try not to eat about 2 hours before you go to sleep. Don't lay down after you eat. Use 2 or 3 pillows to lift your head up this may reduce the reflux that you find in the morning.
