Vaccinations - anyone agree with me?!

Question: As I have stated before, I have three daughters. My daughters have all been given some vaccinations, but not all of them. I did some research after a close family friend's son was diagnosed with Autism - the cause was a vaccine. Some vaccines (such as Merck, I think it was called) have tissues from an aborted fetus inside the vaccination. Is it just me, or does it seem ludicrous to let someone inject your child with something like that?

If I am being unreasonable, please tell me. I just feel as though it's unnessary. Some vaccinations do cause health problems. It has been linked by scientsits that some vaccinations are linked to Autism. Not to mention, such as the aborted tissue, I don't think I want some of the things in my childrens' bodies.

Does anyone agree, or am I being unreasonable?

There are many people who are opposed to immunizations, so your apprehension is understandable. However, your facts are in dispute. The link between autism and the MMR vaccine arose because of the temporal association of administering the shot and the manifestations of symptoms. This is not a causal link as an article in Lancet originally claimed. Furthermore, the respected journal, Lancet, and several co-authors of that paper retracted the article, saying that the research concluding a causal link was flawed, and that one of the authors had a major conflict of interest. Subsequent studies have failed to prove any link between the MMR vaccine and autism. But it is a very emotional issue, and parents with autistic children are often very angry and choose to blame the drug company.

The vaccine is prepared in a chick embryo cell culture; aborted human fetuses are in no way involved.

I am old enough to have seen how ill the vast majority of children with measles are. They are sick! I did my residency during the peak of the 1964-65 rubella epidemic and witnessed the birth of children with multiple birth defects - congenital heart disease, deafness, etc. I saw at least one child become deaf as a result of mumps encephalitis. So these are not always benign diseases.

Perhaps you should talk to a doctor instead of asking on here. All of our children and grand children, have had their shots.

I disagree. Serious childhood disease have been (almost) eradicated because of vaccines, such as, polio, chicken pox, and measles. These were life threatening or crippling diseases that threatened the public health.

I have all my children vaccinated because a cold I can deal with. Polio and other crippling or fatal childhood diseases, I cannot.

When you don't vaccinate your children you put others at risk.
