I can't fall asleep because (this is embarrassing) ..?!

Question: When I lay down, I feel a "crawling" sensation on me. Like little tiny bugs crawling on me. No biting, just tickles of crawling. I feel like a freak! It's all over my body, not just in one place.

I was checked for lice. Don't have it.
No, I do not use drugs.
No bed bugs.
No one else in the house feels this!

Boyfriend says it's all in my head. great. What do I do? and has anyone else experienced this?

Oh god, I feel that ALL the time. Just yesterday I tried to lay my head on a cushion and thought a tick was crawling in my ear. AGH!

I have no idea where these feelings come from. But I am pretty ticklish, which may have something to do with it. What I have to do is check my paranoia about two or three times and then just mentally reassure myself that NOTHING is crawling on top of me.

A lot of it's psychological, I think. I know that when I calm myself down that it's much easier to fall asleep.

But once you've got those thoughts in mind, it's hard to get them out, isn't it? I remember not being able to get to bed after reading up on Brown Recluse spiders a few times...

could be anxiety, when I have a "flareup" of anxiety I feel things crawling on me. I usually take a hot shower, as hot as I can stand, then lotion up, and try to sleep. If that doesn't work, maybe try taking a Benadryl (used frequently at the hospital I work at to help ppl sleep and it works, I've tried it)

I've only had this happen once before. I'm also not on (illegal) drugs but I know that some other prescription drugs can cause that kind of feeling. someone I know had this side effect from an anti-depressant/anti-psychotic.
I ended up having to wrap myself up tightly in my sheets (like a burrito) and then lay blankets over me.

you could be allergic to the laundry detergent being used on your sheets and covers. I had to switch from Tide to Gain because of how allergic i was to Tide...(too much perfume the company puts in the product)

It could be restless leg syndrome (RLS).

Here's a link for WebMD... it's tells you all about RLS. The symptoms sound very similar to yours.

Good luck with figuring it out!

i get asimilar thing ,,but i end up itching..drives me crazy, stress can do it,anxiety also,,intence worrying, washing detergents can do it ,,perfumes etc. try using natural soaps and creams with no perfume in it,preferably dermatology tested. also try using claramax from the chemist it stops itching and that feeling you have i didnt think it would work ,but it does. you could also have restless leg syndrome, you can read about this on virtualmedicalcentre.com
