Effects from recurring head injuries?!

Question: A family member who is in everyday life "normal" has a very difficult time handling being upset or stressed and will hit her head on things or hit herself repeatedly ( not joking serious answers only please). She has had a couple bumps and several bruises on her head from this sometimes i see her get dizzy and have headaches for days afterwards. I get very worried can this seriously cause any effect on her health? I tell her to to stop, but shes an adult. So I'd like to know if this is something that can really cause harm/long term effects? any genuine info/advice appreciated.

She needs to see a doctor. She is probably getting concussions. Thus the prolonged headaches and dizziness. There is probably serious emotional disorder here. She needs to see a professional.

The source deals with sports injuries, but the information holds true for any concussion.

"While most people recover from concussions, a few experience persistent problems with memory or other neurological functions. Doctors believe individuals who experience severe or multiple concussions may be at a greater risk for neurologic disease later in life than the average person."

oh my god. Give her medical help NOW! more like mental help. She could give herself a concussion from repeated blows. Remember Ali the famous boxer? His mind is like scrambled eggs because of repetitious hits to the head. This example might be extreme but think about it. Headaches for days after? Sounds like a red flag to me. Memory loss or migraines could occur.

My first response was to chuckle a bit, but unfortunately I have had some experience with head trauma. Please know she could be in some distress already by wanting or needing to strike her head. Be assured that head trauma, particularly repetitive head trauma, will most certainly have serious health implications. Anytime ( that's going to leave a mark ) kind of blow or one that leaves her feeling dizzy has occured, she has damaged her brain from the concussion effect. Please stop this behavior because the snowball effect from this will most certainly cause memory loss, slurred speech and a host of other problems! Some of them are irreversible!!
