If you gulp down food, will it make you constipated?!

Question: For over a year almost ive been getting constipated off and on. Like one week ill be fine, and then the next I will be feeling tired and cant think straight, and after I take something to go to the bathroom, it goes away. But lately ive been looking at my lifestyle, and I think its that. Im 16 years old. I dont go to school for reasons I wont say on here, and I stay home all day. I started walking last wednesday. And today or whatever, i took 3 caplets of benefiber. And I started chewing my food really slow and made sure it was all chewed up. And then about 3 hours later, I had a bowel movement and it was light brown, and there was more then what I normally would have passed. They looked like little peices. But there was a good amount. SOrry if im too graphic LOl.

Should I continue to chew my better and try taking 1 caplet of benefiber a day for a bit just to see what happens? I LOVEE raisins, will that help?

I have had problems with constipation for most of my life, so I know what you are going thru. At your age, you need to try and regulate yourself naturally instead of using any kind of supplement. Because if you get used to using laxatives or fiber pills, you will never be right. Walking is good and drinking a lot of water is good. You can get the fiber you need by eating better and not taking medicine. Fiber based cereals are good, like All-Bran, or Raisin Bran, or just one bowl of oatmeal in the mornings. Then an apple a day eating peel and all will help. I buy a box of prunes and eat 3 every day and that also helps. If you don't like prunes, any dried fruit will do like figs, apricots, apples, mixed fruit. Limit the amount of cheese and dairy you eat and also try to cut back on beef. Red meat just weighs you down and slows your metabolism and makes you sluggish. I stopped eating red meat years ago and I do not miss it at all. The difference in the way I feel is amazing. You have more energy and your body likes you. I don't know if chewing your food more will help or not, but it can't hurt. And it makes you feel fuller to chew slowly and if you need to lose weight, anything helps. Drinking a full glass of water before eating makes you feel fuller too. Good luck and remember you are too young to have all these problems. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

depending on what type of food you gulp down a green bananna yes, off vegetables yes. Raisins are a healthy type of vitamin.

Yes. don't go on pills or you'll get reliant. i support nesmith5!

Always chew your food at a slow pace as it takes the brain about twenty minutes to let the stomach know when it is full. By eating fast you will not chew your food properly and this causes the problems with digestion and you will tend to eat more which adds to your weight problem. Make sure you eat balanced meals. Drink 6 eight ounce glasses of water daily as to much water isn't good for you and by all means exercise. Your bowel problems should clear up if your follow the above directions. I'd cut back on the raisins and try apples or bananas..... Good luck with your weight.
