No, it'll all come out in the end. ;)

But don't let him chew gum until he's old enough to know not to swallow it. -LL

Good. Thanks! Lynn Report It

  • coz stomach wont able to absorb so it will be kicked to the appendix......that mean more junk in it and increase the chance of it to blow and poison ya.

just spit it out that peace of rubber

Oh nooooo, did you say gum????? Man thats serious business. Ok....ok...first off was it bubalicious, trident, or hubba bubba (please lord let it not be hubba bubba) What you need to do is.....not worry. Sorry, my bad. There should be no problems in the event that your son swallows gum. Unless its so big that he can choke. The only thing with gum is it takes a little longer to pass through the system so it might take a week before he passes it. He really should'nt have any issues like getting ill or anything, I use to swallow gum for fun when I was a kid. Sorry I teased, your just a concerned Mom. (and thats a good thing :) )

It probably won't hurt him, but gum does not dissolve as easily as food. It could become gooey in his bowels and get stuck.

If I were you I would try feeding him some high fiber foods for the next few days, such as oatmeal, bran muffins, cheerios, stuff like that. It will help remove any residue the gum left behind. But don't over do it! Too much fiber will have him pooping bricks.

Watch him for the next couple of weeks, and if his bowel pattern changes, or he gets stomach aches take him to the pediatrician.

Kids are tough. I have swallowed plenty of gum in my time, and never had any adverse effects. Bears watching though.

it wont hurt him when he uses the bathroom it pass that way . i uses to do the same thing no kidding. ?

I am neither a mother or MD, however, I can just tell you think of the size of the chewing gum, and imagine how tiny is your babies belly! Human stomach can not digest chewing gum , or any other mammal does! imagine all that long way that sticky, most likely giant, piece of chewing gum has to travel through his tiny digestive system! BTW, I have heard of chewing gum getting stuck in babies intestine.
Be very careful and as a mother, try to keep bad stuff out of reach of your baby! The way you set your kids nutrition program, they will get used to it, and chewing gum is the last good thing for babies body!
If your baby is not a great vegetable or fruit eater, I have a suggestion for you! act as if fruit and vegetables are bad things for him and he can not eat them as much(the way we usually do for sweets)! do you get it, take it away and they will want it like nothing els in the world!

due to the fact that your child will run around and hit into something and it may go into his airway thats why they don't want your child to chew gum. but if he swallow it he will not hurt him the hydrochloric acid in his stomach will dissolve it like anything else he will eat....... also eatting a large amount of fibers wont do anything to you because it creates a regular and GOOD stool flow and it wont make your child poop bricks as it states above

Hell have sticky poop, or worse blow bubbles from his butt if he farts. I hope this gives u a laugh and calms ur fears. I would be more concerned about the choking aspect. U made the right decision by not allowing him to chew it.

    God bless u,

    Daniel

i know they say it can hurt
but i was doing that since i was child
and i don't have any problem now

Do not let him to chew gum! The gum can stuck in his small intestines and cause an emergency problem. I saw in ER in the hospital, baby came in for surgery due to the chewing gum stuck.
