Why is it if our normal body temp is 98 F, that if its 85 F outside we feel hot!!

Question: I'm just using the 85 degrees F as an example. Basicall surly we should not feel hot till after air temp reaches above 98 F.

cause you're constantly generating heat internally. That's one of the problems (and advantages) of being warm blooded.

In order to maintain the correct core temperature, your body has to continuously dump just the right amount of heat. In cold conditions, you lose too much, so you wrap up warm. In the heat, you can't get rid of enough, so your body tells you to strip off by making you feel hot.

If that doesn't do it, your body increases the cooling rate by indulging in evaporative cooling (sweat). Obviously, in really hot conditions (say 100F plus), you can't possibly get rid of heat any other way. Without sweat, the air around you would warm you up even more, and you would drop dead.

If you're exercising, your body generates heat internally even faster, so you have to sweat more and wear less to get rid of it.

your core temp is just that... INSIDE.
Your surface temperature is lower so when it is hot outside, the receptors in your skin sense it.

hope this helps

its in response to your core temperature. if your core temperature is elevated then outside will feel cold (ie when you have a fever).

You keep your body core at 98 F, and you are producing heat all the time. If it is cold enough, you have to work to produce extra heat to keep warm. If it is warm, like 85, you are producing too much heat, and need to sweat to help dump heat into that warmer air.

So if you exercise, and produce even more heat, you have to work harder at dumping extra heat - more sweat.
