I gave over 15 gallons in my lifetime. I started in High School.
I am no longer permitted to donate because I was in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and also because I was stationed in Germany before then. Apparently, any soldier, sailer, marine or airman who ate beef in Europe before September 1990 may not give blood (at least in Virginia) for fear of the possibility of transmitting mad cow disease.
Go figure.
Id like to give blood but havent had the opportunity yet. But Id like to try once...

There wasn't exactly a moment that guided me to it. The Central Blood Bank called & I felt that I should give to a good cause. Make a difference to someone who needed it.

I always wanted to donate blood to help the sick but i am only 30kg and no hospitals are willing to consider me.

While I wish I could say that there was some defining moment, I can't come up with one. I want there to be a moment where I realized that the small sacrifice of an hour or so out of my schedule was the absolute least I could do. Or that the minor inconvenience of a slightly sore inner elbow covered in cotton and an adhesive, is a small price to pay for the greater good. But that isn't why I first gave blood. I did it for the suckers.
I'm not particularly proud to admit it, but it always comes down to the sweets. That is how they got me hooked. I definitely believe in the good nature of donating blood, but that wasn't the genuine reason I first gave blood.
I guess there are worse vices out there.
