Help with constipation?!

Question: Is it good to take a benefiber supplement before I go to bed? Im 16 years old and have had constipation on and off for about a year now. Im so tired of it man!

But yeah, I really need to change my diet, but I always fall off and start overeating and gulping my food. And it messes me up. Ive tried chewing slow and walking atleast 30 minutes per day. But im still worried about being constipated. Should I take a benefiber supplement before I go to bed just to assure? Maybe it will help a little bit? I dont want to take milk of magnesia because im scared I will get addicted to it.

Hi. 95% of constipations are due to an inadequate diet. I'll try to be brief:

1. You need, at least, 3 liters of water per day.

2. Eat, at least, vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, 3 times a day. Stop eating carrots, potatoes, peas. Eat mango, prunes and apples WITH its skin.

3. Make real exercise, such as jogging for an hour a day, or just walking, but for and hour at least (doesn't count if you walk 3 minutes for one class to another, then sit one hour and the you walk 3 more minutes, you need to make exercise in a continuous way).

And magnesia will not make you addict.

Good luck.

"But yeah, I really need to change my diet,"

eat more foods that contain fiber, vegetables, grains, cereals. You need around 20 - 30 grams of fiber a day. Drink enough water.

Taking a fiber supplement should be fine, especially if your diet right now is low in fiber. If the fiber supplement helps, don't take a laxative. Try eating more foods that contain more fiber and leaning off the supplement. Taking a multi-vitamin with minerals might help to some degree. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water. You might not be eating enough throughout the day, if you only eat one meal. Try eating 3 meals a day instead of one big one at dinner. It might help you be more regular. If you're really concerned you should ask your doctor for more information as to what to do.

Take benefiber and change your eating habits. Eat fruit and vegetables and drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day. Take a stool softener if necessary. You have to make these changes or you will get painful hemorrhoids and digestive problems. You are too young to have chronic constipation.

You already know that a proper diet with several servings of fruit and vegetables will prevent your problem. So just do it. Taking artificial means like benefiber or similar should be a temporary fix to a temporary problem. Not a long term fix for a chronic problem like you describe.

To make sure its not something else, get a check-up from your Doctor soon.

Eat regularly, eat properly, and I'd bet in a couple of weeks your problem goes away. Don't skip lunch! Take a salad with you or eat an apple, at least.

Milk of magnesia is not addictive. Just don't take it other than as it directs.

Seriously, get a check-up and tell your Doctor your problem. 10 to 1 he says the same as I did about having a proper diet and eating regular meals.

add fiber to your diet

eat lots and lots of whole grains

go to your local supermarket and buy products with flax seed in them, flax seed will clear you out no problem

also eat dried fruits that helps out a lot as well
