Does getting your blood checked at the doctor hurt?!

Question: I'm so scared to get a blood test. What does it feel like?

Well.. I'm afraid of shots. Period. lol

Is there any way I can get over this fear and just go do it? I think I have a thyroid problem or maybe hyperkalemia(?)

thank you.

Your fear of shots is very common and one i used to have as well. Please know that your fear and anxiety are actually must worst than the shot itself. Or in this case, minor discomfort of having a blood test. A quick stick and that's all there is. No more pain than pinching your own skin with your thumb and fore finger. In fact, one of the things i used to do to calm my nerves is pinch myself to assure myself that the pain is no worse than this pinch and therefore, very bearable.

Other tips:
Avert your eyes so you won't have to look at the needle.
Keep your mind distracted while waiting.

Your health is important, and you don't want to put your health at risk due to your phobia. Just remember, it's actually quite natural for you to feel anxiety. But once you face your fear, over time, it will eventually cease to be a big deal.

not unless ur scared...

Listen, I am also very afraid of needles. I have given birth 3 times, and am still irrational about the needles. I can honestly tell you that it is not that bad. I always get myself all worked up beforehand, and as soon as it's over I say that wasn't so bad! You don't even feel the needle going in. Honest. Shots are definitely worse, especially tetanus. Needless to say, I promise it's not bad, and your health is too important to ignore over a simple blood test. Just think of young children who have cancer and all the needles they get. Worse things can happen. Turn your head the other way, and it'll be over in a second. Also, check with your doctor if you need to fast or not beforehand. If so, ask if you can drink water, so you will stay hydrated, and that will help, too.

There is a little pain when they first stick the needle in but the best way of not having the pain is to relax your arm. The more you stiffen it, the more it hurts. Don't watch them stick you. Tell them you are terrified of needles but by all means relax. They are not giving you a shot, they are drawing blood which hurts more than a shot but think of something pleasant and it will be over before you know it. It is a very quick procdure and I know you are afraid (my sister is also terrified of needles and she is 50y/o) but you must relax and think of something pleasant. Maybe they will just be checking your cholesterol and they just do a finger stick for that. You can do this. Don't look and RELAX. the more relaxed your arm is the less pain you feel and some people can stick you and you don't feel a thing. Really. Stop worrying.

no. what "they" say about shots and getting blood drawn is true. it doesnt feel like anything. a little like getting your ears pierced...
