No one answer works for everyone. In fact, no one answer works for anyone. It's a problem with dozens of parts, and each one needs to be addressed separately.

Get the patch (solves anbout 5% of the problem). Get your doctor to prescribe Zyban (another 5%%). Do something to burn off that crazy energy - long walks at night, kickboxing, uphill marathons, power-lifting, endurance masturbation, or anything that drains you down to zero (maybe 8%).Chew whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, toothpicks or matches (3%) to give your mouth something to do. You're on your own for all the rest, but remember that there is no silver bullet, no magic wand. It sucks, but do it, all the parts.

Here's what not to do:
-- Don't count on anyone to help you. Even if they keep the promise (as if), they won't be there when you need them.
-- Don't believe that "I felt great," "Food tastes better," "You don't get tired so fast" qrap. Some people do. I didn't - more broken promises, and broken promises don't help.
-- Don't believe that "I just threw them out the car window and that was it." Well, believe that the speaker is saying what [s]he experienced, but that's obviously irrelevant to your life. People are different, and it's OK if you have a hard time. That doesn't make you a bad person, just different, and maybe lonelier.
-- Don't think that having a smoke is a failure. It's not. Quitting is a very hard problem. Chances are, you won't solve it all at once. While you're solving one part of the problem, other parts of it remain unsolved, and that's OK. Just keep solving more parts of it, and you're doing the best anyone (or at least you) can do.
-- Avoid coffee and alcohol until you can trust yourself more. You don't need more jaggies, and you don't need a bottle telling you "It's OK."

Not everything works for everyone. I tried talking to therapists, and had bad experiences. I tried hypnosis and had an extremely bad experience. You know you. Don't believe everything you hear.

you need to find a new addiction, mine was pornography, but now i cant stop watching porn =/

buy the patches or the gum...it helps cut the cravings

just quit..throw them away...really its just a mind psychologic thing...its easy to quit..but ppl just arent mind ready. they are just too lazy to make an effort.

First choose whether or not you want lung cancer.

Second put down the cigarette. Permanently.

find a healthy hobby? go out for a walk whenever you crave them... uhh, start chewing gum, not the nicorette crap but the regular stuff, and i guess the best things to do would be take a good multi vitamin, and start exercising, you know.. doing your body some good...

that stage lasts for a few weeks its the worst part

My boyfriend and I quit cold turkey. You just have to have the will to do it. You can if you really want to. I worked at a Hemotology/Oncology office and after seeing patients with cancer and then having my father and mother in law diagnosed with it months apart, as well as eventually losing my mother in law three months later was enough to get us to quit. Do it now before it's too late.

Do NOT get a different addiction- it wont fix it, you'll just have two addictions. Well, I don't smoke, but I can imagine just how tough it is. I've heard about these gold magnet earring things that seem legitimate and different (http://ezinearticles.com/?Stop-Smoking-W... ). The downside is that they don't really 'stop' your addiction, they just satisfy your desire to smoke without you having to actually smoke a cigarette. There's gum, patches, and probably other stuff. Talk to a doctor- they can definately help you too. Hope things work out...

Oh! Another commercial just popped into my head. I don't remember who it was for. I do remember it said that quitting varies from person to person. They said something about a 'quitting buddy' and showed a picture of a guy with a dog. Go here: http://ezinearticles.com/?cat=Health-and... . Nice big list of articles.

If I were in your shoes, I would try to get out of the house and keep myself occupied when I have urges. For the moment, have a glass of wine (or a cold glass of water) and maybe something to eat. Just satisfy yourself in some other way and keep busy.

Not every method works for everyone. I had smoked for 25 yrs. I decides to quit because I did not want my 4 young boys to start smoking. I enjoyed smoking but they meant more to me. I think you must have a motive for wanting to quit. Every time I wanted a smoke I would go drink a big glass of water.I mean every time!! soon I started wanting to smoke less. This was washing the nicotine from my system and curbing my urge for the cig. and at the same time think " why" you have decided to do this. I have been smoke free for 23 years now. Every now and then I will smell one that smells so good but I would never go back to smoking. Also stay away from others that smoke as much as possible for the first few weeks anyway if you can. Good luck, It is well worth the trouble you go thru.
