Ive been diagnosed with an abnormal liver. What does this mean?!

Question: My doctor has run lots of blood tests and i experience lots of pain in my upper abdomen and right hand side. Also in my lower back.

She has given me lots of causes such as gall stones, stomach infection. I am scared i have some kind of cancer but she says im not the right age to get cancer (im 46yrs old) but a test came back today saying i have an abnormal liver. What does this mean and does this coincide with my symptoms. I cant find much on the internet that i understand - its all very technical.

You need to ask your doctor to explain. You will worry too much so go asap & see your doctor.Good Luck

That is a really really broad diagnosis. Who's your doc? There are 1001 reasons for an "abnormal liver", such as infections, alcohol, gallstones obstructing the gall flow, and 998 others. Including genetics, hepatitis C. No way of telling with the dignosis "abnormal liver".
Also, you're never too young or too old, unfortunately, for cancer. Now relax and wait till they figured it out.

First of all, dont worry. Just go back to your doctor and ask him/her to explain in very plain and simple tearms what the problem is, this way your mind will be put to rest... Best of luck, take care.

Ok - well worrying about what it could be won't help at all...

I'm presuming that the reason your doctor didn't specify what exactly was wrong is because he doesn't know.

They must have detected something in a result that indicated that would eb caused by your liver, but what exactly is wrong with the liver is yet unknown.

Further tests will have to be carried out to know and if your doctor didn't discuss this with you then you need to speak to him asap.

Just try to stay calm and wait it out - its all you can do. Keep busy and drink lots of water. Be kind to your liver in the meantime!

I'm sure it will turn out to be something minor :)

I cannot answer to what 'abnormal liver' means(your doc should provide you with the best info), but as far as you have some pain in that area; I know fish oil, or especially krill oil helps liver a lot. And not only liver...

If you start receiving meds, if I was you, instead of them, I would take one of those oils. I will be surprised if your doc will proscribe you lot of meds as the first thing they poison is liver.

Sorry If I am way off topic..

As someone else said there could be loads of things. Best thing to do is go back to the docs and ask for an explanation and suggested actions. You may be referred for an ultra sound scan to see if they can see anything going on. In the meantime avoid alcohol, fatty foods(red meat, dairy etc) and eating late at night.
