Open your mouth as wide as you can, in front of a mirror and in good lighting, and look closely at the back of your throat. If you see little red or white dots around your tonsils or the back of your tongue, you may have strep. Now, if you don't see them it doesn't mean you don't have strep, but it's a good indicator if you see the spots.
See a doctor. Untreated strep throat can lead to other very serious health problems. I gave you a google link for images of strep. Warning: Very graphic.
The doctor can take a swab, and send it off for a tissue culture.
Generally, you just feel like crap. It is painful to swallow, you sometimes have pus in your throat, sometimes run a fever...
You might just call the doctor and ask if strep is going around. If it is, you probably have it.
