Has anyone ever over used the nasal spray Afrin? I used it for too long...?!
Question: I know that you are only supposed to use it for like 3 days, but I have been sick so much this year. I stopped using it but my nose is severely stuffed up. I have been taking Sudafed and tried drinking water with cayenne pepper in it...nothing is working. What else can I try??? Thanks!

OH, that stuff is addicting! It does something to your sinus passages that makes them swell up later. So the more you use it the more you need it. I used it for over a year because I couldn't breath. I went to my doctor and he had to give me a prescription to help get me off of it. I also have a friend who had to have surgery on his sinuses and they told him to use afrin for a week to ensure no clotting would occur. So that right there should tell you how bad it is. You may want to try some, I think it's called Ocean Spray. It's an over the counter nasal spray that may help you get off the afrin. But even with that you are just going to have to ride it out.
Get to a dr.... My dr. said to never, never use it for more than 3 days. If you like sushi, have some with a lot of wasabi, that clears me up quicker than anything... but make sure you consult a dr about the Afrin so you don't do permanent damage.
