I have just come back from the hospital .....?!

Question: Was on the waiting list for 3 ? years just to get an appointment.

Now the good news is I am on the surgical waiting list, (for my operation I need) the bad news is I'll be dead before my name comes up - I'm only 37 yrs old now!

.. all to do with 'not enough money' to go around the health sector.

What is a person meant to do?

Frankly if I go to a doctor I go private and pay, rather than wait to be seen by some hospital physician. At least you get the thing diagnosed in a timely manner.

All that said, if you require elective surgery it is quicker and cheaper to leave Australia. Man I work with here in Canberra got the eye operation to eliminate the need to wear glasses early last year. He went to Brazil for it, it was done in Rio de Janiero . Air fares, accommodation and the surgery itself cost about 2/3 of what it would have in Canberra. He is as happy as Larry with the result

He is married to a Brazilian lady but did not stay with her family as they live well to the north of Rio. So no saving on accommodation there.

Frankly it has been my belief for decades that the main problem is that there are far too many people claiming on single medical consultations. It is OK for pensioners and those on low family incomes or welfare, but it is not OK, in my opinion, for people who are on a good income to do so.

Any single employed person or family with dual incomes should be able to pay their own way for two or three visits to a doctor or dentist every year and not be eligible to claim on government or private health benefits. If you start talking about expenses over say $500 then that might be different but less than that I feel you should have to pay the lot yourself.

People will give me thumbs down for this, but the sort of money involved with one visit to a doctor would fill the petrol tank and buy a few groceries, maybe pay for someone to get into the cinema. I have never claimed on any single visit to a doctor.

HAVE FAITH

? Learn from the experience.

? Advocate for clients who are in the same situation as yours. Approach the government sector, the health sector, the media.

? Help others along the way.

If this question is for real.....according to news I've heard lately, those in the USA who have been unable to get the treatment they need here are starting to get medical surgeries and other treatments done in other countries. Have you looked into that as a possibility? Can you travel?

Do all you can to help others and fufill your dreams. Unless it depresses you, make a list of things you want to do before you run out of time. Tell your loved ones how much you care for them, keep your head up, and stay strong. Live life to the fullest. Good luck and I'm terribly sorry that you've been put in such a terrible position.

Love, Jenna

I had several doctor in my room daily. if one saw something the other did not see, they'd point it out... and if its urgent you will be seen in E.R. and set up to see a doctor according to your needs,
in most case's within a few weeks. Good luck!!!
