EEG Flatline 24 hours - Question for school.?!
Question: An 8 year old child is brought into the hospital having been pulled from a swimming pool, perhaps after having been submersed for 10 minutes or so. The child is unconscious but body reflexes are positive; normal breathing is absent but now sustained with artificial ventilation; heart rhythm is strong and regular; optic reflexes are absent; and EEG (brainwaves) are isoelectric (flatlined) for over 24 hours now.
The question is this:
What measures may be necessary to maintain or hopefully improve his state?
I need someone to break it down a bit for me if possible. Would such a case be considered a miracle?

No the child is brain dead, and unfortunately, will probably never recover. If they did recover brain function, it would be a loooong, slow process. To maintain or improve his state, they would have to be given nutrients, and possibly remain on the ventilator until normal respiratory functions are restored. Personally, i have it in my living will that i don't want to be maintained in a state like this, and the child's parents should consider the best interest of the child.
SOUNDS LIKE HES BRAIN DEAD TO ME HE WILL NEVER REGAIN ANY THOUGHT PROCESS
