Melatonin 300mcgs? Whats a mcg?!

Question: I bought some melatonin a few days ago (the natural sleep-aid). I didn't read the bottle closely when I bought it, and turns out I bought a bottle of 100, 300mcg tablets. What is a mcg? Is it more or less then a mg? How many mcgs= 1mg?
How much should a 20 year old girl (5'8 weighing 130lbs) take? It says to take one, but that had no effect on me.

Some studies have even suggested that as little as 300 micrograms is ideal for younger users, but it
