Anyhow, Cocaine in it's pure form has too low of a "boiling point" to be able to effectively smoke, which is why it's changed into crack through a process which involves some steps (which I won't mention here)
Once the cocaine is transformed into crack, it's placed in a "glass pipe" with some type of a screen used to hold the crack (to keep the smoker from inhaling the crack rocks) The crack is then heated up with a flame (ligter, torch, etc) until it starts to vaporize, and those vapors are inhaled.
The standard method for normal cocaine use is not from "inhalation" of the cocaine powder, it's actually absorbed through the mucous membranes in the nasal cavity (IE: snorting)
"Freebasing" is done not by "melting" the cocaine, but rather dissolving it in water (since cocaine is water soluble) heat is usually added in this process to speed up the dissolving the cocaine - a piece of cotton is usually added to help hold some of the impurities, the liquid solution of cocaine/water is then injected into a vein.

Um...I might be really off...but I think they put it into a pipe (I dunno if it's the powder or whatever) and then use a lighter on the bottom of the pipe to produce smoke from it then...they smoke it?
