Carbon monoxide and the chimney upstairs.?!

Question: We live in the basement suite of our landlord's house. He has a fireplace in his unit and runs it quite often. We know he is using it because our apartment begins to smell like a forest fire. There is no smoke that we see, it just reeks. Is this dangerous?

Not as dangerous as a faulty gas fire. It probably is more of a nuisance than a health hazard as the smoke should really be travelling upwards and away from you. You can get a carbon monoxide alarm as a precaution. You can also ask the landlord to remedy it and if he doesn't then investigate a way to stop him from using the fireplace like complain in a letter.

Chances are the chimney is restricted and it would be in his interest to get the chimney swept and checked for leaks.

it is really harm full and slow poison.better try to change the direction of chimmney or change room
