Can anyone help??????? I'm looking for helpful ways to get out of this rut t!

Question: I've been feeling really unmotivated, lazy and depressed, which is very unlike me. I sit in at night and just eat and watch tv, i can't get myself out of the house, i thought b/c it was just too cold but i can't even smile. I don't know why, i have no huge reason to be depressed, i mean besides the same struggle i have all year round, bills, finances, work, just life in general. I noticed on the weekends, in the morning, i'll open the blinds and actually get a smile on my face, but during the work week, i have no time for sunlight. I never noticed being affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder in the past but up until a few months ago i was managing a tanning salon, perhaps the beds were actually pushing this depression to the backburner. Well i can't afford to tan, i just need something to get me out of this rut...can anyone relate? give me some advise, my health insurance just kicked in yesterday, so if need be i will seek medical help.

Join a health club before you even think about going the medical route. If it is a mild seasonal disorder and not a pervasive depressive condition, then regular exercise will help lift you out of the rut. If you can't afford a health club, try walking or running for even as little as 15-20 minutes each day. If it is too cold, wear many layers of clothing; you will warm up to it. If you have trouble getting motivated, try a sort of "quest." I am a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, so some years ago, I joined a group of folks (online) who were walking figuratively from Frodo's home in Hobbiton to Mount Doom in Mordor. There were signposts by mileage and you could chart where you were in Middle Earth by how far you walked. This kept me going, and I walked all 1800 miles to Mount Doom. Plus, it got me outdoors and active. There are many variations on this. Pick something you enjoy; I thought about charting the old Tokugawa era Tokaido road and walking along it because I enjoy Japanese history. But you would know what journey in literature or history (or geography) suits you best.) The quest I did was called the "Eowyn Challenge," because she felt she was in a cage in the story and wanted to break out. It started on the Weight Watchers website but I learned of it from an LOTR bulletin board. It is a "challenge" concept, and it might help you find motivation.

Do something of the ordinary mundane life style your living now. Try spending more time with your friends. It seems like your lonely. Maybe even find a good guy to spend time with. :) If you really don't have close friends find something to do outside. Our bodies naturally need UV rays to generate a certain chemical that makes us happy.

Need be Angie, need be.
Good luck.

Angie, It would help to get involved in volunteering to help the disabled. It would be rewarding to help others and would also make you appreciate your life. Good Luck.
