Question: My sisters dad past away on dec. 16, 2007. He never was part of her life because he skipped out when she was?
young. Anyways, now that he has died the state is after her to bury his body. She doesnt have the money and he has been dead so long that donating his body isnt an option because he has been dead to long so they cant use him. They are going to give her a misdemenor charge if she doesnt come up with the cash. What can we do to put him to rest?

I don't think this is "kosher", she is not responsible for burying him. The state makes arrangements to put unclaimed bodies in a pauper's grave, they don't go after families to bury them. She should just tell anyone that calls to stop harrassing her, that she has no intention of claiming the remains and if they don't stop she will sue them for harrasment.
maybe cremation? its cheaper.then she can spread his ashes somewhere,or keep the ashes and container.someday,when she can afford it,she can inter the urn .is there a pro-bono lawyer or someone she can talk to?i dont think she can be forced to pay if she doesnt have the money-she needs legal advice here.ask about this in law section of answers,as well,maybe someone will know!
I have to agree with the 1st post...they can't go after her & make her bury him, especially with a misdemeanor. She needs to contact a lawyer (over the phone is usually free)
