Are heart by-pass surgeries usually successful?!
Question: my aunt is having one tomorrow and imm so hoping she'll be alright...she had a catherization which told the docs that she had a major blockage in her main right arterie, which im guessing is her aorta..thye also said that she has developed soo much plaque that a thing string could hardly fit into the arterie...so how bad does this sound, is she in any real danger?!

Statistics vary depending on the surgeon and the condition of the patient before surgery. My mom had 6 vessel bypass (yes 6 vessel!! ) in 1994 at the age of 70!!!
She is now 83 and although she has many other health problems, is still hanging in there! God bless your aunt, I hope she does just as well as my mom or even better!
By pass surgeries have a very large success rate and as long as your aunt changes her lifestyle she will most likely be able to overcome her heart issues. One thing that is important to always remember, You can not change what you can not control and the only thing you can control is you. This is how I deal with very stressful times in my life and have worries. Say a prayer for your aunt and be supportive while she is healing. Good luck to you and your family!
By pass is getting much more routine.
My grandfather had it 15 years ago and he did great. He had a quadruple by pass!
