Is it possible to train myself to be a heavier sleeper?!

Question: I am a very light sleeper, waking up at the slightest noise. I also have a very hard time sleeping anywhere but my own bed. This is very frustrating since I like to travel. Are there things I can do to train myself to be a heavier, more comfortable sleeper?

It is possible, and I think the answer lies in need. "Hunger is the best cook." I used to be such a light sleeper. I would wake up if someone turned on the TV in the next room with the door closed, or a creaking sound, or the wind... anything!! I never seemed to get much sleep, as my husband's alarm would go off at 4am every morning when he was in the Marines.

Fast forward 4 years later. We now have two children and the only thing that wakes me up is the sound of crying. I sleep right on through the alarm clock, even with the snooze being hit for 30 minutes. The kids exhaust me everyday, so my body is more apt to take advantage of the time I have to sleep, because it's not guaranteed to be through the night.

The more tired I am, the better I sleep. My advice is to exercise more during the day, and watch less TV. When your body is stimulated to max capacity, physically and mentally, you will sleep.

Figure out how many hours you need to be totally rested and then go to bed at the same time every night. Don't watch t.v. in bed, or read before you go to bed just lay down at that specific time. It takes a while to get used to it. And make sure that you don't go to bed too early or you will actually fall asleep later because your body will recognize that it isn't tired. Good luck.
