Is working overnight bad for health?!

Question: Is it normal? Can it do harm to your health and can it cause cancer like I see on another question Ive see? Their is no second shift or first shift and no other close jobs near by. Why do companys make people work overnight I just don't think it is normal for the body.

It's not normal for the body. Recently studies have been conducted that people who work a full time graveyard shift have a higher risk of having cancer. I thought that was crazy, but it's actually true.

I can understand why some people need to work the graveyard shift--doctors, police, nurses, etc, but with cancer now being linked to night work, more employers are likely to take this into consideration and may try to switch to different shifts during the day.

it affects your bodies clock, can cause insomnia and you make you feel tired alot, and it plays hell with social life. and takes months to recover once you leave

I've been working overnights for years-I'm very healthy. It takes some adjusting too, but once I retrained my body to sleep during the day I was fine.I am in the health care field and people need care at night as well as day time. There is no risk of cancer working nights, that's just plain silly thinking that.Companies need to keep production up and sometimes working around the clock is the only way to do it.I've read the studies and they are hog wash.I've been doing this 17 years and no complications like they are saying.None of my friends doing the night shift have any problems either. It's just another scare tactic by the press. When you wrk the night shift your body gets retrained to be awake at night and sleep during the day.The functions remain the same just switched.

Its called the grave yard shift, rumours has it it can take a few years off your life as it knocks your body clock, your eating habits change you certainly don't sleep as well.and most jobs that warrant night shift get paid more because its classed as unsociable hours, for many people its a must who have a family and cant afford childcare and do it out of necessity.not all in life is simple
