Why are people so ill informed about their own bodies?!

Question: I have answered many health related questions and I really can't understand why so many people are not educated about their bodies. When I was in High School I took a health class and I learned about sex and reproduction. I also, got the "Birds and the Bees" talk from my mother. Why do so many people not know about this? I really feel bad that so many girls have questions about their period and feel they are too embarrased to ask their own mother about it and instead ask strangers in Cyber Space. I also, cannot believe how many people explain these pains they are having yet they haven't seen a doctor about it. What is the point of asking questions here when you are having chest pain. Go to the ER for Heaven Sakes. Also, so many girls have Body Dismorphic Disorder and are obsessed with being as thin as possible. Why not just be healthy? They ask questions like "I'm 5'6" and weight 112, should I lose 10lbs?" Hell no!!!!! You are fine! It drives me crazy!

I agree but since when are you a medical genius?

Point is, whether it makes sense to you or I or not, people WILL come to a place such as this to ask strangers a question. It provides a level of anonymity that perhaps some are too afraid to ask their parents. Yes, we should be able to ask the people who gave life to us but sometimes, those questions are very personal and we don't want to worry them or gross them out.

Hell, I was raised by my dad. Do you really think period talk and puberty was easy for him OR me? Not a chance.

Give people some credit. These forums exist to help.

I'm sure before you got the "birds and the bees" talk and bla bla bla you too were ill informed about your own body. unfortunately not everyone had those luxuries. nothing rakes me the wrong way more than when people git upset with anothers ignorance. its arrogance. If it drives you that crazy stay away from the health related questions

A lot of girls are misimformed some girls dont have good parents to teach them things...and most people fall asleep in health class haha.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder has very little to do with common sense, its a brain disorder you can't just say, "Oh, I look fine there's nothing wrong with me" if there's a chemical imbalance in your brain. The person knows, realistically, that they probably really aren't as fat or ugly as they imagine but can do little to control their feelings and the way they see themselves when they look in the mirrror. Also, body dysmorphic disorder has a lot to do with anxiety as well.
