Can anyone recommend a useful cough syrup for children?!
Question: Cos we need some. Not Calpol. Nipper has a hacking cough and we think we ought to at least try some of this stuff. Thanks.

depends a lot on teh age of the child but I usually use warm light black tea with honey and lemon. Do not go heavy on the honey as it can irritate the throat in large quantities but it has natural antibiotics which are great for this type of problem. Try to use a clear honey, as the hard honey's tend to have stuff added.
Lying child on his back will also irritate the throat so lie him on his side and do not allow him to get too overheated as that also irritates the throat.
Hope he feels better soon. If none of these work then I am afraid you are stuck with the GP, and the GP will normally go for calpol..
don't know if they carry it in your country, but Triaminic makes several kinds in the US.

Calpol would be no good for a cough anyway it is a pain reliever/fever reducer, it's acetaminophen (paracetamol) in liquid form.
I would recomend a visit to the Doctor to first find out WHY your child has a hacking cough and get a medication that is appropriate from him/her.
Take one lemon and squeeze. Add one tea spoon of honey and mix. Administer 3 - 4 a day. It works.
You do not need coff sirup - try honey instead. Also ice cream. It works and much more fun too, especially for kids.
I'm a pensioner and that's how I take care of a sore throat.
Other thing is, if you don't want your kids having booze in their stomachs, stay away from coff mix - most of it has alco in it, even if low.

It might be worth trying Tixylix- I give it to my daughter ,when she has a cough as it is what my Nan used to give me when I was young, so I know it works!!!! Hope your little one is feeling better soon

yes triaminic is good, but i suggest raw honey rather. a little,medium or large spoon depending on the age of your children would be a great natural remedy. try it and you will feel the difference

Calpol have got a cough syrup out that was very good, only give it to my kids at night so they get a decent nights sleep. During the day i use honey to soothe their throat as dont believe you should stop the cough.
