Is Azythromycin Related to Penicillin?!


Question: I am taking Azythromycin..Because i have had an ear infection.I am allergic to penicillin..I have 2 days left of antibiotics. And i am starting to feel better but my left ear is killing me and is swelling like it has a bump in it...And my Lymph Node in my Armpit is Swollen...What is wrong?

While the medication you are taking is an anti-biotic it is not related to penicillin. It works by keeping the infective bacteria from forming a cell wall thus killing it. But anti biotics are only effective if you have a full prescription. If you stop taking it when you feel better or don't have enough to start with then the bacteria could regain control and make you worse. It is best to see a doctor so you can recieve the appropriate anti-biotic for your illness and take the full prescription.
