I would bet that most of them have health issues (high blood pressure or diabetes), and are strict diets. So, doctor's orders to eat certain things and omit others. They also are not as active as young people, and so they do not burn calories the same way, so again, under doctor's orders, they must adjust their diet. If you believed that you might lived another 5-10 years at their age, wouldn't you try it???

It might also be that have less appetite when they get older. That could be because they no longer wish to spend a lot of time to make their own food, they are less active, and they may have financial difficulties making eating out more of a frugal affair.

It might also be cultural. My own aged mom was born and raised in the depression era, so she is used to eating lightly. She almost feels that eating lightly should earn a badge or award. I think when she was young, that was probably the case...the less they could along by, the better for the family.

You haven't met my Fat Goombah Italian Uncle Paulie! He's like 300 pounds dude! He likes touching my girlfriends juggs! I let it slide cause he's like 50 yrs old and fixed in his ways! Sometimes she protests all this touching but I put her in her place!

their insides r decaying
this also explains why they have a smell
no offense to the elderly

I see a lotta fat old people round here in the dirty south.

My grandmother got skinny after she broke her hip, but I'm not sure about other elderly people who are skinny.

There rotting away in the inside i know it sounds wrong but they are... sorrry!

They do not eat as much. They seem to lose their appetite. They usually eat alone--and cook for themselves so it is boring to bother to eat. They also forget to eat.

it's because they have to eat healthy to stay healthy. plus they take vitamins everyday which keeps them regular; there aren't any real toxins in their body and because their bones "wither". but most people, once they hit a certain age, start to shrink in size.

gravity effects us all ..the older you get the shorter you get as the bone in your spine compress ..lack of use of the muscles make them atrophy making them look smaller

Illness can make them lose their appetite. Senses of smell and taste get reduced over time so food is just not as appealing any more.

They are not rotting away on the inside, they just need a bath. This can also be difficult for them.
