Why is it bad to put your hands in hot water when you were out in the cold?!


Question: I heard you're not supposed to do this, but I tried to type it into Google and I'm not getting anything, so I thought I'd ask here. I like that feeling (yeah I'm weird) so I want to know what happens.

because your hands are numb from the cold, applying heat will likely lead to burns and nerve damage - this is called chillblains - a very painfull experience that can take years to get over
