What do tonsils do, and why do we have them?!

Question: if so many people just get them taken out, then why do we need them anyway?

Tonsils test everything that enters your mouth from your food to the air you breathe. I believe they give your body a 'heads up' when they discover something bad coming like a virus or bacteria so your body can start working on antibodies and stuff. So, getting them taken out isn't such a big deal, because it's not like it's a 'way in advance' heads up system like a hurricane warning. It's more like a tornado warning - not much time just an "oh crap here it comes!'

i dont know
i've always asked myself that question
but i think its behind that ball in the back of your throat

Tonsils act as a filter. When they are not doing there job they make you sick a lot.

They are part of your immune system. They protect you from big bad germs and diseases.
