Hypothyroid medication question?!

Question: I am hypothyroid and recently got a blood test. I take 125 mcg of levothyroxine. My TSH level is 5.74. My doc upped my dosage to 137. She said that since i have to finish my present medication, i should continue taking the 125 mcg for 6 days in a week and on one day (the same day every week), i should take 1.5 pills. Is this OK? Doesnt the body need the same amount of medication everyday. Taking a lot one day and lower on the other days??? Will that help. This is only for maybe 20 days more but i was curious.

While taking the same dose of Synthroid is easier, you can take it as the doctor suggested because its culmative effect. I'm sure once your meds are out, the doctor will put you on a dosage tht is the same each day.

If you were on a med containing T3 like armour, then taking a different dose of med one day would not make any sense.

I also have hypothyroidism and take Levothyroxine (generic for Synthroid). It's amazing that you're on 125mcg with a TSH level of 5.74. My TSH was over 7.0 and I only take 50mcg a day.

You should contact your physician with your questions. There must be a reason he/she wants you to increase your dosage, and to do so one day a week until the old dose is gone.

You have to be pro-active with your health. You are the only one who can be.
