How common is O negative blood?!

Question: Both of my parents are O positive and my 2 siblings are also O positive as well. I have O negative blood. I have heard that type O blood is the most common, but does this apply to both O positive and O negative blood or just one group?

O negative blood type counts for 7% of the US

it is the most common in both positive & negative

I have it too. Since I just donated with Red Cross, I'll reiterate what they said about O blood in the letter:

"More than half of the blood needed nationwide is Type O." (no mention of positive or negative)

Type O - can donate to any other blood group but we can only receive the same blood which is rare. Double-edged sword.

Type O negative is the universal blood donor but both are common. Negative means you have no antibodies in your blood, thus not being rejected by other blood types. If you are negative and your parents and siblings positive then your parents must have a recessive negative genotype which came together to make you. Know that you can donate blood to anyone so do make it one of your ways of giving back and donate some blood, quarterly is good and it is always needed especially while we are in a war and natural disasters restoration period.
