Why does tea on an empty stomach make me nauseous?!

Question: Any tea, be it plain, fruit-flavored, or hot/iced makes me nauseous (I've even thrown it up!) when I drink it on an empty stomach. Green tea is the WORST. Obviously I stopped doing that, but occasionally, after about a year, I'll try it again - same nausea. I'm curious if anyone has any input. The simplest answer might be an allergy, but tea with food never makes me sick, and the vitamin I take everyday (with food) has green tea leaf powder in it. Vitamin w/o food = nausea, too. I'm 23 and have no known food allergies.

Tea rates very high on the acid/alkaline scale so it could be the acidity.

Coffee is high in acid too but most people add cream or sugar to it which brings makes it easier on the stomach.

Could be the caffeine

maybe your body doesent like hot tea with no food try drinking it wile eating toast with some butter on it see if that is differ. and y do u wana drink it on an empty stomach anyway lol just drink after u eat

maybe youre hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and the tea doesn't have enough substance in it to neutralize your blood sugar?
go get a blood test, or read more about hypoglycemia to see if you have the symptoms. the same thing used to happen to me.

Tea is very acidic and that can make you nauseous on an empty tummy. I find I get very hungry after I drink any kind of black tea, unless i've just eaten. It's the acidity!

I had the same problem so I don't drink it anymore I have no idea why

it may have something to do with its acidity level...

pls answer my question too

You're correct in that it is not an allergy.

Your problem is most likely due to the caffeine and/or the tannic acid in the tea. If you're digestive system is sensitive to either of these, it can upset your stomach when it's empty. Both increase the amount of hydrochloric acid secreted by the stomach. If you eat bland foods prior to drinking the tea, you probably will be OK. Bland foods include those which are not acidic or spicey.

Hope this helps.
