Does anyone get 18 hour headaches regularly? Why do I???!

Question: I get them once to 2 times a month- usually on the first day of my monthly friend and then often during ovulation (I think). It does not seem to be associated with my diet or hydration though not eating well will make it worse. I do eat regularly and have a fast metabolism so when I get these headaches (along with nausia and wooziness) I get really ill. My doc put be on a low dose hormone (birth control) to see if it would help- it only made the headaches more frequent... like 3 times a week. It also made me super anxtios, so I gave up on this approch.

If anyone has any insight or suggestions, please help! Keep in mind- they do last almost exactly 18 hours weather they start in the middle of the night, in the morning... whenever. It may make a difference.

THANKS!!!

What you have is called "menstrual migraine" and my mom suffered from this since she was a teenager. The birth control pill only makes them worse. You should see a neurologist for more info, but I can tell you there is a food avoidance list that my mom always went by. She had to avoid (at all times): chocolate, cheese, alcohol (especially red wine) or she'd trigger one of these migraines or make them worse. The best thing you can do is take Imitrex as soon as they begin. Do you get a "light show" flashing in your eyes? If so, take an Imitrex as soon as this happens. The longer you wait, the harder the migraine is to get rid of. You can totally abort it with an Imitrex usually.

If you don't have Imitrex, just drink something with caffeine to constrict the blood vessels in the brain (migraines happen when they're dialated too much and somehow this is related to hormones of your monthly cycle). Coffee is Ok but green tea is the safest bet.

Migraine, go see your gp/doctor for advice

i think u r having some kind of migraine, somes times they r genetic, sometimes they r not. Its a migraine or ur body is trying to tell u that something wrong!
Maybe u need to eat healyth more often and not wait till u get all starving and woozey. Birth control?? thats crazy , i wouldn't have agreed to that. Check out other options like a migraine medcicine like imitrex. Do u have a under weight problem? that could be wats causing the frequent headaches. If nothing at all helps get cat scan or MRI but be careful and only us eif nothing else works. Also maybe u need glasses, bcuz when u can't see normally it causes headaches even if u don't think so...see an eye doctor. But i really think u r having migraines just bcuz they just happen .

A doctor will not help you.(how comforting) They will put you on meds with awful side effects and it will only mask the problem.

I'm going to bet that trigger points in your neck and upper back are causing this. Hormones will not help you with this. Imitrex or Relpex or whatever the hot new headache med is, will not truly help you with this. Preventatives like Indernal will not help you with this.

You need traction on your neck. Find a good Massage Therapist. One that understands Neuromuscular Therapy and myofascial release. It could take your headaches away forever.

This was my approach after years of suffering. I haven't had a migraine or a headache in over a year. I wish doctors would have told me this, but I just don't think they know or care.
