If you've already seen the doctor and just forgot to get a note.. then no. Just call the office and let them know.
If you haven't been to the doctor at all, yes.
It depends on who is requesting the note. Many employers and schools are ok with a fax from a nurse or doc saying you had a telephone consultation. We arn't talking about a perscription here. Chances are though, you will not have a long term excuse. For that, you'll certainly need to go in.
